Making sentences 51 days left


In today's writing, I would like to make some sentenses with verb phrases from my English grammar book.

1. ask out: ask sb. to go on a date
I am asking Janet out for dinner tomorrow night.
2. blow out: extinguish (a match, a candle)
Blowing out the match, Alex! Don't you know it may set a fire to
our house?
3. break out: happen suddenly
In Taiwan broke out an mysterious lethal flu withou any warning.
4. break up: separate, end a relationship
Amber just broke up with her boyfriend Andy this month.
5. bring back: return
Don't forget to bring the British Encyclopedia I lent you last month
back this Sunday.
6. bring up: (1) to raise (children) (2) mention, start to talk about
Jeff's mother brought him and his three sisters up all on her own, so
he adored his mother very much.
During the meeting in this morning, our supervisor brought his colorful
college life up.
7. call back: return a telephone call
Could you keep a message for me to ask Jack to call me back
whenever is available.
8. call off: cancel
They called off their outdoor picnic because of the typhoon's coming.
9. call on: ask sb. to speak in class
Most students in Taiwan who are called on often keep silent instead of
speaking what they think. This kind of learning situation mostly
controled by teachers' lecturing has killed students' creativity.
10. call up: make a telephone call
Don't forget to call/ring me up once you get home tonight.
