Phrase of the day
* There are some sentences(with ? marks) written by myself, and I am not sure wether they are right or not. If you can help correct them, I will be very grateful.

1. get something off your chest: to tell someone about something that has been worrying or annoying you for a long time, so that you feel better afterwards
: After dring several bottles of beer, Jane got what her husband did to her off her chest and kept on crying. ?

2. rather than 是個滿特殊的對等連接詞(conj) =instead of+ V-ing
1.因為其後若接動詞,要原形
ex: Bryson decided to quit rather than accept the new rules.
(= Rather than accept the new rules, Bryson decided to quit. ?)

2. rather than 可放於句首
ex: Rather than go(v.) straight on to university why not get (v.) some work experience first?
: Rather than work(v.) hard, he plays(v.) around all the time.
(= Instead of working hard, he plays around all the time.)
: Rather than study medicine, he played music.
(= Instead of studying medicine, he played music.)
: He is lazy(adj.) rather than diligent.(adj.)
(= Rather than diligent, he is lazy. ?)
: Mary is a student(n.) rather than a teacher.(n.)
(= Rather than a teacher, Mary is a student. ?)
: He is interested in swimming(V-ing) rather than (in) dancing.(V-ing)
(= Rather than dancing, he is interested in swimming. ?)
: He failed because he was lazy(clause) rather than because he was stupid.(clause)
(= Rather than because he was stupid, he failed because he was lazy. ?)
: I think you'd call it a lecture(n.) rather than a talk.(n.)
(= Rather than a talk, I think you'd call it a lecture. ?)
: I stayed(v.) home and slept rather than go(原v.) to work.
(= Rather than go to work, I stayed home and slept. ?)
: Mike likes jazz music(n.) rather than classical music.(n.)
(= Rather than classical music, Mike likes jazz music. ?)
: They like living in the mountains(prep+n) rather than near the ocean.(prep+n)
(= Rather than near the ocean, they like living in the mountains. ?)

3. rather than 可接兩個有對等關係的S.,之後的動詞應變按第一個主詞作化
ex: He rather than I is wrong.
: Mike rather than you was chosen to be the class leader for next semester. ?
: Julia rather than her sisters is studying abroad next year. ?
